For those who prefer a more relaxed pace, the Tavern Inn complex is also close to the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park, offering ice skating and sledding.

In the summer, the neighborhood comes alive with outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, and rafting along the Truckee River, which flows just a short distance from the complex. Access

For parking at Unit 17, 227 Olympic Valley Rd, it’s important to understand the distinction between community spots and assigned parking. Community spots are unmarked spaces, and these are available for all guests on a first-come, first-served basis. Any parking spot marked with a condo unit number is assigned exclusively to that specific unit and cannot be used by other guests.

The community parking spots are located about 150 feet to the left of Unit 17, with a short walk leading to the exterior stairs of the condo. Please be aware that during the winter months, heavy snowfall can make parking more challenging. We strongly recommend using these community spots, as parking in the assigned spaces of other units is prohibited and has caused issues for guests in the past.

Snow removal in the complex is managed by Granite Peak Property Management, which plows only the main driveway. Individual parking spots are not cleared, so be prepared to shovel your way to your parking spot and to the condo during snowfall. We provide snowmelt, shovels, and ice picks in the ski closet to the right of the front door to assist with this.

Transit

In the Tavern Inn Condominiums area, the best way to get around—especially in the winter months—is by utilizing the convenient public transit options, rather than driving. With limited parking in the complex and challenging winter road conditions, using public transportation is the most efficient and safest way to explore the region. Both TART (Tahoe Area Regional Transit) and Palisades Tahoe’s free shuttle services provide easy access to key locations, including Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows ski areas.

TART Public Transit
TART operates year-round and offers regular service throughout North Lake Tahoe, including stops near the Tavern Inn Condominiums. In winter, the TART bus is a great way to avoid parking challenges and get around safely. The nearest TART pick-up and drop-off locations are conveniently located close to the complex. Palisades Tahoe Free Shuttles
For direct access to Palisades Tahoe and Alpine Meadows ski resorts, take advantage of the Palisades Tahoe free shuttle service, which operates between the two mountains. This shuttle is an ideal option for skiers and snowboarders, ensuring you don’t have to worry about parking, especially during peak times. Why Driving in Winter Isn’t Ideal
Driving in the winter, especially with the heavy snowfall typical of the Lake Tahoe region, can be difficult and hazardous. Roads are often icy and parking is extremely limited at the Tavern Inn Condominiums complex, making it a challenge to find a spot, especially during high-traffic seasons. Using public transit reduces stress, keeps you safe, and helps you enjoy your time in the mountains without the hassle of parking or navigating snowy roads.

For your convenience, we highly recommend relying on these public transit services to make the most of your stay, whether you’re heading out for a day on the slopes or exploring the North Lake Tahoe area.

Before your visit, it’s also crucial to reach out to Granite Peak Management for updates on the facilities they manage, including snow removal and amenity availability. The pool is closed for 8 months out of the year, but the sauna and hot tub may be available. However, please note that we have no control over these amenities, and availability can vary. The good news is that the condo itself features a large 8-person cedar wet sauna on the first floor for your relaxation and enjoyment.

Winter in Lake Tahoe can bring heavy snowfall, and we ask all guests to come with a positive attitude and be prepared for shoveling. The HOA only plows the main driveway, and individual parking spaces are not cleared. You’ll need to shovel your parking spot and the walkway to the condo during snowfall. We provide snowmelt, shovels, and ice picks in the ski closet to help make this easier. If you’re not comfortable with lifting heavy, wet, icy snow, this experience might not be a good fit.
