In summer, the roads are clear and the drives are especially beautiful along Donner Pass Road and Highway 89. In winter, a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive vehicle is strongly recommended due to snow and routine chain controls on surrounding highways. Caltrans frequently enforces winter driving requirements during storms, particularly on Interstate 80. Free parking is available in the driveway for multiple vehicles.
